Become a Licensed Texas Adjuster

AdjusterPro's Bottom-line: Becoming a licensed adjuster in Texas is relatively easy thanks to an option of taking either 1) the state exam or 2) a certified adjuster pre-licensing course. Pre-licensing courses are available either online or in classroom settings. Texas grants reciprocal licenses to non-resident applicants holding resident licenses in states that recognize the validity of the Texas license.
Adjuster License Requirements
To become a licensed insurance adjuster in Texas, individuals must:
- Be 18 years of age or more.
- Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the US Immigration and Naturalization Services
- Take a certified adjuster pre-licensing course, or
- Successfully complete the Thomson-Prometric State Exam
- If a non-resident applicant holds a license in another state that allows Texas adjusters to operate within their jurisdiction, that applicant does not need to take the state exam or pre-licensing course.
- Exemption: Adjusters holding an AIC (Associate in Claims) or CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) are not required to pass the state exam or take a pre-licensing course.
Licensing Process
- Texas Adjuster Application Form LHL206 must be completed and submitted with a fee of $50.00.

Reciprocity
- If a non-resident applicant holds a license in another state that allows Texas adjusters to operate within their jurisdiction, that applicant does not need to take the state exam or pre-licensing course.
Maintaining Your License in Texas
- 30 hours CE are required per 2 year reporting period. 2 of these hours must be in Consumer Protection and/or Adjuster Ethics.
- Renew your application online with the Licensing Application to Renew License.
